Is the central heating radiator not hot?

Central heating is the main heating method in winter in northern China, but "radiators not heating up" has become a common problem that troubles many families. From overall coldness to local temperature differences, from no heat at the beginning of heating to sudden cooling halfway through, there are different reasons behind different phenomena of no heat. The central heating system involves multiple links such as the heat source, pipeline network, building secondary network, and indoor system, and any problem in any one of them may cause the radiator to not heat up. Redwood tree radiator editor tells you

Typical manifestations and classification of causes of central heating radiators not heating up

There are various forms of central heating radiators that are not hot, and each form corresponds to a different root cause of the problem. The overall cooling type (radiator with no temperature at all) is often caused by the system not being heated or the household valve not being opened. If the entire unit or building is not hot during the initial stage of centralized heating, it may be due to the heat source not being supplied normally; If only the home is not hot, it is necessary to check whether the main valve for entering the house is in the closed state (the new community may not have opened it) or if the valve core is damaged and cannot be opened.
Local temperature difference type (hot on top and cool on the bottom or hot on the left and cool on the right) is the most common, accounting for about 60% of non heating problems. This situation is often caused by air blockage inside the radiator, where air accumulates at the top or one side, blocking the circulation of hot water; It is also possible that impurities such as rust and sediment have accumulated at the bottom of the radiator, blocking the water flow channel and causing a lower temperature at the bottom or far end. Touching the radiator with your hand, if the temperature difference exceeds 5 ℃, it can be basically judged as local blockage or air blockage.
Gradual cooling type (gradually cooling in the early stages of heat) suggests the presence of chronic problems in the system. Leakage in the central heating pipeline network leads to a decrease in system pressure and insufficient power for hot water circulation; Or if the filter is not cleaned for a long time, impurities gradually accumulate and block the pipeline, and the hot water flow rate becomes smaller and smaller; It may also be due to a decrease in the power of the secondary booster pump in the building, resulting in insufficient water pressure for remote users. This non heating phenomenon has a gradual process, from slight heat at the beginning to complete non heating later, which may last for 1-2 weeks.
Intermittent non heating type (hot one after another and cool one after another) is related to system pressure fluctuations. The secondary network pressure of centralized heating is unstable, and the frequent start and stop of the booster pump leads to fluctuating hot water flow; Or the system frequently replenishes water, causing a sudden drop in temperature when cold water enters the pipeline. After the water replenishment is interrupted, the temperature gradually rises again. This situation is common in old pipeline networks, manifested as periodic fluctuations in radiator temperature accompanied by water flow noise inside the pipeline.

Common problems and troubleshooting methods of central heating system

Insufficient heat source supply is the fundamental reason for regional lack of heat. When the output of the heating boiler is insufficient, the water loss rate of the pipeline exceeds 3% (normally less than 1%), or the steam supply pressure of the thermal power plant is insufficient, it will cause the heating water temperature in the entire area to be low (below 50 ℃), and the radiator cannot reach the normal temperature. It can be judged by touching the main corridor. If the main pipeline is only slightly hot (below 40 ℃), it indicates that there is a problem with the heat source supply and the heating company needs to be contacted for solution.
The imbalance of the secondary network in the building leads to 'near heat, far coolness'. In the same building, the radiators of low rise users near the thermal inlet are hot, while those of high rise or remote users are not hot. Due to insufficient circulation of hot water to the end, it flows back, forming a "short-circuit cycle". This situation can be confirmed by measuring the inlet water temperature of users on different floors. If the temperature difference exceeds 8 ℃, it can be basically judged as hydraulic imbalance, and the property management needs to adjust the valve opening of the building's water divider to balance the flow of each branch.
Aging and blockage of pipelines are chronic problems in old residential areas. Galvanized steel pipes that have been in use for more than 15 years will have rust and peeling on the inner wall deposited with water flow, which will reduce the inner diameter of the pipe (in severe cases, only half of the original diameter will be left) and increase water flow resistance; And scale and welding slag at the pipeline connection can also block the channel. This kind of blockage is concealed and can be judged by observing the frequency of filter cleaning. If the blockage still occurs frequently during weekly cleaning, it indicates that the main pipeline has been severely corroded.
Valve malfunction affects hot water circulation. The entrance valve and radiator angle valve of centralized heating have rusted and stuck due to long-term inactivity, or the valve core has fallen off, appearing to be open but actually internally blocked; If automatic valves such as thermostatic valves and balance valves are not properly adjusted, they may mistakenly limit the flow of hot water. When checking the valve, you can close it and then open it again to feel if there is any obvious resistance. If the switch is abnormal or there is no resistance, it may be a valve malfunction.
